I hadnt tried this dish till now since the name Shepherd’s Pie itself sounded so intimidating. But when I actually decided to give this dish a try and browsed through some recipes on the net, I found to my surprise that this is quite an easy dish. This recipe is a keeper for sure since the end result was totally worth it!
Ingredients
1 large onion (diced)
500 gram beef/lamb (cut into small pieces)
700 gram potatoes (boiled)
3 medium carrots (diced)
2 tablespoon tomato purée
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
500ml beef stock
85 gram butter
3 tablespoon milk
1 tablespoon sunflower oil
How To
Heat the oil in a deep bottomed saucepan. Add onions and carrots and saute for a few mins. Add the meat when the onions become soft and saute on high flame till the meat starts to brown. Add the tomato purée and Worcestershire sauce and again saute for a few minutes. Pour in the stock and bring to a simmer. Cover and cook for about 20 minutes. Remove the lid and again cook for another 20 minutes till the gravy has almost evaporated and the meat is cooked.
Preheat the oven to 180 degree Celsius. Mash the potatoes along with the butter and milk. Put the meat mix into an ovenproof dish. Spread the mashed potatoes on top. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the top starts to change colour and the meat mix starts bubbling through the edges. Allow to stand for 5 minutes before serving.
