Chana Masala is a popular North Indian vegetarian gravy dish.
Ingredients
1. Chickpeas (Kabuli chana) – ½ cup
2. Tomato – 1
Onion – 1
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Coriander leaves – a couple of leaves
3. Onion – 1 cup (chopped)
4. Red chilli powder – ¼ teaspoon
5. Garam masala powder – 1 teaspoon
6. Oil – 2 tablespoon
7. Salt – to taste
8. Coriander leaves for garnishing
How To
Soak chickpeas in water overnight. Cook the chickpeas in a pressure cooker. Reserve the water. Keep aside.
Grind together number 2 ingredients. Heat the oil in a pan. Add chopped onions and sauté till soft. Add the ground mixture, red chilli powder and salt and sauté for a couple of minutes. Add the cooked chickpeas and garam masala powder and fry till everything is mixed thoroughly. Add some of the reserved water and let it all come together before removing from fire. Finally, garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Chana masala goes well with battura, rice and rotis.
